Late last year, I wrote a post called This Is Not The End and if you haven’t read it, it’s exactly what you think it is – a blog letting everyone know that I’m not done with GEEK THIS, but I had to move it to the back burner in order to focus on life, family, and other projects that seemed more appealing.
That hasn’t changed, really. The podcast is not my top priority and I’ll release episodes when I can. The only real news on this front is that I’m moving toward more of a seasonal release schedule. This is mainly to avoid burn out, but also a way to position myself to make better episodes that what I was doing at the end of 2018. I felt as though I was phoning the podcast in and I don’t want to do that.
So what’s next?
I have a few topics set up for part of the next season of GEEK THIS, which includes a two-parter on The Umbrella Academy, a bad movie review that Ben Avery suggested years ago, and a review of Batman Beyond, which I never really watched until after subscribing to the DC Universe service. I’ll be talking about that service, too.
I also want to start doing some series-based episodes. This gives me a chance to really dig into the background of characters or franchises that is harder to do when I’m releasing episodes every single week. The goal with these is to make something akin to an audio documentary instead of me just talking. It’s a lofty thing to do, but it will flex my writing and audio production skills. (If you have any tips or want to help, let me know!)
Finally, I wanted to talk a little about other hopes that I have going forward in regards to hosts and guests. Last week I won a bunch of new podcast equipment. This is included a new mixer, broadcast-quality microphones, and headphones – enough for three people to record at once. What I’d like to do is start bringing David, Mike, and Adam back to podcast episodes on a regular basis. Maybe even having all of us getting together to have a big “catching up” episode everyone now and then. This has always been a big struggle for the show, but it’s one of my absolute favorite things to do. Also, this new set up should give me the ability to bring in other podcasters, like Ben Avery, Matt Anderson, or whoever else wants to pop in. In addition to that, I’m going to do my best to break out of my shell and appear on other shows that will have me.
OK. That’s the end of this update. I know it’s kind of a lot, but that’s how my brain works with this show
